VAT Rebate for Ireland:

What is VAT relief?

VAT is a tax that you pay as a consumer when you buy goods or services in the European Union. Individuals who are chronically sick or disabled can claim VAT relief when they buy equipment that has been designed solely for disabled people and is for their own personal and domestic use. This means they pay the retail price and claim the VAT afterwards.

Can I claim VAT relief?

1.     Individuals who are chronically sick or disabled can claim VAT relief on these products.

2.     The person is chronically sick or disabled; they have a physical or mental impairment, that has a long term effect on their ability to carry out everyday activities. Have a condition that doctors treat as a chronic illness (diabetes for example) or are terminally ill.

3.     A person with a temporary injury like a broken leg would not qualify, nor would a frail older person who is otherwise well but not disabled.

How do I claim for Vat Relief?

1.     Download form 61A from the revenue commissioners website http://www.revenue.ie/revsearch/search.jsp

2.     Complete the form and together with your Carewear invoice send both to the address indicated on form 61A.

3.     Your refund will issue in due course.
